Shutoff Valley collects as little as a website can: no accounts, no forms, no ads, no analytics and no cookies set by this site.
What is collected
This site does not ask you for anything. There are no accounts to create, no sign-up or contact forms, no comment boxes and no newsletter. It runs no advertising and no analytics or tracking scripts, and it sets no cookies of its own. Reading a page does not create a profile of you here.
Fonts and videos
Web fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser requests the font files from Google's servers when a page opens. Google receives the usual details any web request carries, such as your IP address and browser type.
Some pages include videos. They are click-to-play and use YouTube's privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain. Before you press play, only the video's thumbnail image loads from YouTube. Once you press play, the video loads from YouTube and Google's own privacy terms apply to that viewing.
Server logs
The servers that host this site keep standard request logs, as web hosts generally do. A log line typically records the address that made the request, the page asked for, the time, and the browser's user-agent string. This site does not combine those logs with any other data or use them to identify readers.
Links to other sites
Pages link to water suppliers, government agencies, code libraries, makers' manuals and, on some pages, two shops that share this site's owners (see who owns this site). Those sites have their own privacy practices, which apply as soon as you follow a link. Nothing on this site passes your information to them beyond what your browser sends when you click.
Changes
If the site ever adds something that changes what is collected, such as a new embedded service, this page will be updated to say so before or when it happens. The colophon describes what the site is and how its pages are made.
